Cape of Good Hope

The Cape of Good Hope was a location taught to many of us in school when we first learned about the early world explorers. It was the place where the early sailors stopped to replenish their supplies on the trade route between Europe and the Far East. Many of the sailors took up residence in Cape Town married black wives and started what is now known in this country as the "coloureds". There are four distinct races recognized even currently in South Africa: Whites, Blacks, Coloureds, and Indians/Asians. The coloureds are very proud of their mixed race heritage.
